5 Future Innovations -IBM

IBM writes about five innovations that will change our lives over the next five years:

# We will be able to access healthcare remotely, from just about anywhere in the world
# Real-time speech translation-once a vision only in science fiction-will become the norm
# There will be a 3-D Internet
# Technologies the size of a few atoms will address areas of environmental importance
# Our mobile phones will come close to reading our minds

Could u explain by what do u mean by healthcare remotely ?

# Real-time speech translation-once a vision only in science fiction-will become the norm
This could be true probably the most realistic innovation that might come out. Coming out soon if u ask me .

# Technologies the size of a few atoms will address areas of environmental importance
I do see innovation in this domain , esp in the area of chemical engineering and nanotech ! I think this looks real promising - Nanotech + environmental science , Something to look out for in the future.

# Our mobile phones will come close to reading our minds
# There will be a 3-D Internet

The less said abt the above 2 - the better

As much as i respect big blue and their history of innovation , I think some products like the 3d internet would be a real iffy !
With the internet , I think that we will see the emergence of thin client computing where most of the OS is hosted on a remote server and most client machines are left to deal with simple computing issues. With better computer networks , i see that data storage will be come online - thereby reducing a lot of processing capacity on a host machine .
